The fastest web-handling machine I have worked on is 3,048 mpm (10,000 fpm). This was a paper slitter/rewinder and was for a short time the world speed record holder. Before this machine was commissioned, a faster machine had been sold to another producer.
The slowest web-handling line I worked on was designed for 3 mpm (10 fpm). This was a tool designed for the semiconductor industry.
The shortest rolls I have worked with were 5 meters (15 ft) long. This line produced a building material, and the short length was geared to the do-it-yourself marker. The big challenge was completing a turret index and wrapping the roll in the allotted time.
The longest time to complete a roll was 18 hours. The runner up was 3 hours. Like watching paint dry.
The shortest time to complete a roll was 15 seconds for building materials. I have seen bathroom-tissue rolls completed in less than a second.
Others of you out there may have seen much faster and slower processes.
