Friction destroys instrument resolution. Friction destroys control quality. Nip controls on many machines have much more friction than, say, load cells or temperature readouts.
This has two implications. First, is that the actual product nip has a little, or a lot of uncertainty, despite what the control panel may say and even if the cylinder pressure is controlled perfectly.
