Totani founded Totani Giken Kogyo Co., Ltd., in 1952 in Kyoto. The company was incorporated in 1961, later named Totani Corp. Izumi Totani led the company as president, overseeing the design, manufacture and sales of automatic bag- and pouch -making machines. He expanded the company and began to export worldwide into the Americas and Europe.
Totani retired from active leadership in 2001 and continued with the company as a member of the board of directors. Izumi continued to visit Totani headquarters one to two days per week up to 2014, often holding classes for incoming new employees.
His son, Mikio Totani, and grandson, Ryuichi Totani, continue to lead Totani Corp. as president and vp, respectively.
