We have all read in different studies that surgical facemasks could prevent the transmission of the coronavirus from symptomatic individuals. Other researchers also encourage the use of facemasks in public.
It is possible, therefore, that widespread use of facemasks by the public might help slow the spread of the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that people use facemasks when they go out and where social distancing is not possible.
With this becoming the new normal with facemasks becoming part of our day-to-day lives, its demand has increased greatly across the globe. Mamata identified this as a need to develop a new high-speed, 2- /3- /4-ply surgical-maskmaking machine. We consulted medical professionals, day-to-day users of these masks and understood what is required to be improved in these masks. The most important thing that we came to learn was how people would prefer to wear it.
Conventional masks have ear loops to hold it in place. We all have experienced that wearing a mask over the ears for a longer period of time can cause stress and also damage delicate skin around our ears. Therefore, we all have observed most of the medical and healthcare professionals using mask that have a rope that goes over their head and they tie it down.
Our first challenge was to address this concern of ear loops. The second challenge was to have a machine that can make this mask in single-step process. Most important challenge was to address productivity issue and design a machine that is high-speed to help manufacturers meet the increasing demands for this mask and achieve economies of scale.
Team Mamata came up with an idea to develop the mask with head-over loops in place of conventional ear loops. Our design team worked day and night to come up with what we consider to be an unusual solution for surgical-mask manufacturing with in-line loop insertion.
The Win 200 Mask machine is designed to manufacture multi-ply surgical masks at speeds of up to 120 pieces/min, when made with in-line loop and nose clip.
The machine can produce mask blanks (without loop and nose clip) at up to 200 pieces/min. Mamata looks forward to partnering with our converting fraternity and take this product to the market.
