SYNEK is a stand-alone home appliance that refrigerates, pressurizes and dispenses beer for the home consumer. Inside the dispensing system is a unique three-layer pouch, which helps keep the beer fresh and under the right amount of pressure for 30 or more days. Users can fill the pouch with home-brewed beer or take it to their favorite brewery, restaurant or bar for filling. After filling, the pouch is securely capped. Once home, the user removes the cap and connects the pouch to the draft system. The pouch, which holds 128 ounces (more than 10 traditional 12 ounce beers) was developed through collaboration between SYNEK and Mondi Jackson, Consumer Goods Packaging.
Inaugurated in 1986, the DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation is recognized globally as the leading packaging awards program. This program supports DuPont’s commitment to recognize excellence and inspire innovations in packaging. Each year an esteemed panel of independent judges awards diamond, diamond finalist, gold or silver honors based on “excellence” ratings in one or all of three categories – Technological Advancement; Responsible Packaging; and Enhanced User Experience.
“We are honored to be a DuPont Packaging Award recipient,” says Ross Bushnell, president, Mondi Jackson. “Our work with SYNEK exemplifies creative collaboration in packaging at its best, and we wish SYNEK continued success as it introduces its beer dispensing system to craft brew enthusiasts.”
One of the award program judges was David Luttenberger, CPP, global packaging director, Mintel Group Ltd. USA. “Judges for the competition were especially impressed with this large spouted pouch’s ability to be filled with craft beer, brewed either at a pub or from a home brewing system,” Luttenberger says.
Judges evaluated nearly 200 entries from more than 25 countries. Mondi was one of 22 winners selected as 2016 packaging innovators.
