This technology introduces revolutionary high-barrier material solutions to the flexible packaging and converting industry, making it possible for converters to eliminate layers, streamline production, simplify their raw-material stream and significantly reduce the carbon footprint of their products. The new 8-ft (2.45-meter) metallizer, is the first in the world with in-line flexo coating and electron-beam curing.
“This is a truly revolutionary technology for the converting industry that has been nine years in the making,” says Ferrari. “We have been working with our partners to produce many unique top-coated films on our pilot line for all kinds of flexible packaging formats. In doing so, we have been able to prove out the technical benefits of this technology in a variety of applications. Celplast is excited to become the first company in the world to apply this technology on a large-scale commercial machine. It's the next big step in the evolution of barrier films and I believe that we will see a lot of the industry adopting in-line metallizing and top-coating in the near future."
Local Member of Parliament for Scarborough North Shaun Chen was in attendance to celebrate the unveiling of the Metacoat® technology. “This event marks an important milestone for a trail-blazing company,” says Chen. “The launch of this new machinery will lead to new market opportunities and growth for Celplast, while helping the company to deliver safe, consistent, and high-quality products and services to clients in the packaging industry. The Government of Canada, through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, is proud to support Celplast increase its technical capabilities and drive economic growth through innovation.”
