Citing people familiar with the matter, Bloomberg has reported that Amcor could take over the flexible-packaging manufacturer in an estimated $4.3 billion deal. It would make Amcor the fourth-largest packaging company in the world after the three big paper and pulp businesses: International Paper Co., WestRock Co., and Oji Holdings Corp.
Colorado’s Ball Corp.. would drop to fifth largest. Amcor purchased Ball Corp.'s US plastic packaging business in 2010 for $280 million. Those operations overlap with the flexible packaging that Bemis converts.
